The Court Improvement Program of the Louisiana Supreme Court and Pelican Center for Children and Families welcomes you to attend a virtual primer on the newly published Louisiana Child in Need of Care Benchbook for Juvenile Judges, which will include a discussion of key Child in Need of Care provisions and practices.
The training will provide information about “Reasonable Efforts” and the Child Welfare Assessment and Decision-Making Model, which is the framework the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) uses to assess safety and risk. Speakers will highlight alternatives to removing children from their home through the use of Informal Adjustment Agreements, Temporary Restraining Order/Protective Orders, and Instanter Safety Plan Orders. The curriculum will also explore issues that can arise at the Continued Custody, Adjudication, Disposition, and Permanency Hearings. Representatives from the judiciary, DCFS, child and parent representation programs, the Louisiana Supreme Court, and the Pelican Center will present.
This training is designed for district attorneys and assistant district attorneys, Bureau of General Counsel, parents’ attorneys, children’s attorneys, DCFS staff, CASA, and court staff.
