Children and youth in foster care represent one of the most vulnerable student subgroups in the country. Studies find that children in foster care are much more likely to struggle academically and fall behind in school than their peers. As the 2023 – 2024 school year begins, let us gain a deeper understanding of the services available to school-age children involved in the child welfare system. This CIP Cafe’ will provide information about federal and state education laws, regulations, and mandates. Participants will learn about Exceptional Student Services and how to request these services.

- Identify state and federal laws that apply to the educational needs of school-age children in foster care.
- Learn how to access and request Exceptional Student Services.
