The Court Improvement Program (CIP) of the Louisiana Supreme Court in partnership with the Pelican Center for Children and Families welcomes you to attend a virtual CIP Café on the placements available for children in the state’s custody through the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Children in foster care should be placed in the least restrictive and most family-like setting that provides the most effective and appropriate level of care for the child. Depending on the medical and/or non-medical needs of the child and the facts of the case, there are different care settings available. This CLE/CEU will offer an in-depth look at the care setting options available for children in foster care, including family-like settings, congregate care, and residential treatment. The differences between placements and hospital admissions will also be discussed. Information about relevant DCFS policies utilized in making placement decisions will be provided. Participants will be able to ask questions as well as learn about helpful resources and how to access more information.
